What is an LED side marker light?
A side marker light is a lamp used to indicate the presence of a vehicle when viewed from the side. Fitted along the body sides of a truck, bus or trailer, side markers show the vehicle’s length at night, which front and rear lamps alone cannot do.
Model 420022 combines a side marker lamp with a side turn signal (side direction indicator). The marker burns with the position lamps; the turn signal flashes with the vehicle’s direction indicators on that side. It is one of our LED signal lights for military and specialist vehicles.

Clear Side Marking and Turn Warning on Long Vehicles
A long truck or trailer turning across a road at night is seen first from the side. Without side marking, other road users see a gap between the headlamps and the tail lamps. Side markers fill that gap, and the side turn signal warns anyone alongside before the vehicle moves across their path.
Military vehicles also carry radios and sensitive electronics. Model 420022 is listed to MIL-STD-461E, the US standard for the control of electromagnetic interference, and to MIL-STD-810F, the environmental test method standard that covers temperature, shock, vibration, rain, and sand and dust. If your programme calls up a later revision, raise it at the enquiry stage.
Integration and Ordering
Connect the marker function to the position lamp circuit. UN Regulation No. 48 requires side-marker lamps to switch on and off together with the position lamps, and allows them to flash in conjunction with the direction indicators. The number and spacing of lamps along the body follow the installation rules that apply to the vehicle: UN Regulation No. 48 in ECE markets and FMVSS 108 in the US.

Frequently Asked Questions
Under UN Regulation No. 48, side-marker lamps show amber light. The rearmost side marker may show red when it is grouped, combined or reciprocally incorporated with the rear position lamp. Direction indicators, including side turn signals, are amber. State the colour of each position in your enquiry, so that front, intermediate and rear lamps are supplied correctly.
They can. LED lamps draw much less current than filament lamps, and a flasher unit that senses the load may read this as a failed lamp and flash fast. The usual fix is an LED-compatible electronic flasher, or load resistors where the flasher cannot be changed. See our guide to hyper flashing with LED lights.
They should not. Model 420022 is a service lamp: wire it to the service lighting so that it goes dark whenever the crew selects a blackout position on the main light switch. Marking under light discipline is the job of dedicated military blackout lights.
The list names the lamp standards the design is built to. Road approval is shown differently per market: an ECE approved lamp carries an approval mark, while in the US the manufacturer certifies compliance with FMVSS 108.
