Features
- One housing for every small signal position: the backup, DRL and front position, stop and tail, and turn signal versions share one body and one universal mount, so a single mounting layout serves the front, rear and reversing positions of a vehicle.
- Two functions where a position needs both: the DRL and front position version runs as a daytime running lamp or a front position lamp on separate leads, and the stop and tail version gives a steady tail lamp and a brighter stop signal from the same lamp.
- Lens colour matched to the function: amber for the turn signal, red for stop and tail, clear for the backup and DRL versions, so each lamp shows the light colour the lighting regulations require at its position.
- Two mounting routes: screw the lamp straight to a flat panel, or order the version with the 90 mm adapter ring, which fixes to the vehicle on two M6 bolts.
- Approval listed per function: each version carries the ECE regulation for its own function, and the backup and turn signal versions are also listed to FMVSS 108 for vehicles registered in the United States.
- No metal to corrode: the polycarbonate base and lens do not rust, which suits lamps exposed to road salt, slurry, washdown and water in mines and quarries.
- One part for 12 V and 24 V vehicles: the same part number fits 12 V plant and 24 V trucks and military vehicles, so stores hold one lamp per function instead of two.
What is a compact round signal light?
A compact round signal light is a small lamp that performs one light-signalling function, such as a reversing lamp, daytime running lamp, front position lamp, stop and tail lamp or direction indicator, on a vehicle with no room for a large rear combination lamp. It is fitted to plant and agricultural machines, material handling equipment, rail vehicles, mining machines, trucks, buses and military support vehicles.
Model 217 is the compact round lamp in our LED signal lights range. It is built in one version per function, and the versions differ in lens colour, wiring and approval, as the version table on this page shows.
Each Model 217 performs only the function it is built for. Select backup, DRL and front position, stop and tail or turn signal for each position from the version table.
Without the ring, the lamp screws to a flat surface with two #8 screws. With the ring, it bolts on with two M6-1 x 25 bolts; the two screws that hold the lamp in the ring are tightened to 12 to 16 inch-pounds (about 1.4 to 1.8 Nm).
Lead colours differ between versions, so follow the instruction sheet supplied with the lamp. Protect every joint against moisture (the manufacturer recommends shrink tubing) and leave slack at the lamp. On older vehicles, check that the flasher unit is LED-compatible before fitting the turn signal version.
Fit the foam gasket under the lamp on a flat, solid surface at least as large as the lamp or bracket, so the housing does not warp. Check at service intervals that the lamp works and is secure.

Model 217 Standardises Small Signal Lamps Across a Fleet
Plant, rail and support vehicles often carry a different small lamp at every position. Model 217 replaces them with one housing in four functions, so fitters work to one mounting layout and one wiring routine, and stores hold one spare per function.
Each version is listed to the UN regulation for its own function, which matters when a vehicle goes through type approval or a roadworthiness inspection: the turn signal to ECE Regulation 6, the stop and tail and front position lamps to Regulation 7 (see ECE Regulations 6, 7 and 91), the backup lamp to Regulation 23 and the DRL to Regulation 87. Where a reversing lamp must also give an even image for a rear camera on a trailer or machine, our LED reverse light is the larger option.

Frequently Asked Questions
The manufacturer’s industrial safety lighting guide lists a red Model 217 rear fog light, part number 0345431, approved to ECE Regulation 38, and a clear-lens rear fog version, 0345511. Neither is in the manufacturer’s current part list, so ask us about availability before you specify one. UN Regulation No. 48 requires a rear fog lamp to emit red light. A white lamp at the rear is a reversing lamp, which is the Model 217 backup version.
Two. UN Regulation No. 48 (07 series) requires one reversing lamp, with a second optional, on M1 cars and on other vehicles up to 6,000 mm long, and two, with two more optional, on vehicles longer than 6,000 mm other than M1. On a truck, bus or long machine, order two Model 217 backup lamps (0345421).
Yes. UN Regulation No. 148, in force since 15 November 2019, combines Regulations 4, 6, 7, 23, 38, 50, 77, 87 and 91 into one regulation for light-signalling devices, and new lamp types are approved to it. The separate regulations were frozen, and approvals already granted under them remain valid. The Model 217 versions are listed to the individual regulations; ask us for the approval marks of the versions you order. See our guide to ECE R148.
Choose by size and function. Model 217 is the compact lamp and the only one of the two with backup and DRL and front position versions. Model 206 is a larger round lamp, 124.71 mm across, built as a single-sided stop and tail light or a double-sided turn signal, with an optional protective guard for exposed positions. See our Model 206 signal light with universal mount.
