Identification Systems

Identification Systems

Infrared (IR) identification products provide an essential layer of security and functionality in both military and civilian environments, enabling covert identification and signaling through advanced infrared technology. These systems leverage passive materials that reflect IR light while absorbing visible light, ensuring discrete visibility only to infrared imaging systems.

Designed for applications ranging from vehicle marking and personnel identification to search and rescue operations, IR identification systems offer customizable infrared wavelengths, high durability, and reliable performance across diverse conditions. Whether for covert missions or operational training, these products integrate seamlessly into existing systems, enhancing security and visibility without compromising functionality.

Key Features

  • Covert Activation: The IR ID products activate only in the presence of IR laser or light, making them ideal for discreet identification.
  • Passive Material: Crafted from materials engineered to absorb all visible light while selectively reflecting infrared wavelengths.
  • Customizable IR Wavelength: Reflects IR within the 0.7-1.4 micron range, allowing customization for specific applications.
  • Narrow-Angle Reflection: The reflected IR is emitted at a narrow angle, ensuring that it is visible only from the viewpoint of the IR source.
  • Enhanced Security: Offers an additional layer of security by utilizing unique IR technology for identification.
  • Versatile Applications: Suitable for a variety of identification needs in both civilian and military contexts.
  • Non-Intrusive Design: Integrates seamlessly into existing systems without impacting their functionality.
  • Reliable Performance: Ensures consistent operation across diverse environmental conditions.

Applications and Advanced Features

  • Vehicle Marking: Includes infrared reflective “UpArrow” inverted V markers made from metallized prismatic retro-reflective base material. These markers offer high infrared reflective signatures with over 70% IR transmission value at 835nm, viewable at distances of over 800 meters. Designed with a matte diffuse pattern and clear abrasion-resistant coating, these markers provide superior performance and durability in aggressive environments.
  • Thermal ID Signaling Panels: Dual-sided panels for both daylight and thermal marking, with one side featuring visible orange ripstop nylon and the other side using thermal reflective material for visibility by thermal imagers.
  • GTAS Panels: Ground-to-air panels for search and rescue operations, providing a high contrast passive signal visible to all thermal imagers by day and night. These panels are rugged, lightweight, and require no power to operate, ensuring continuous functionality until recovery.

Customization and Flexibility

Reflective patches, badges, and vehicle markers are available in various forms, including:

  • Fabric: Suitable for sewing onto clothing.
  • Permanent Adhesive: Strong abrasion resistance for long-lasting applications.
  • Magnetic: Reapplicable uses for flexible deployment. These products are fully customizable to meet the unique operational requirements of each client, ensuring safety and visibility in all conditions.

Product Range

  • Army combat service identification badges: Full-color surface detail replicates any national flag or service insignia, providing 100% infrared reflective signature while appearing subdued in daylight.
  • Small 1″ & 2″ Squares: Compact IR reflective markers for various applications.
  • Dual ID Products: Allow for dual identification with IR and visual markers.
  • Adjustable Neoprene Armbands: Custom-fit armbands for personnel identification.
  • Helmet Schims: Designed for helmet-mounted identification.
  • Double Sided Hanging IR Reflectors: Lightweight and durable, provide enhanced visibility.
  • Antenna Markers: Markers for antennas to ensure visibility.
  • Self-Adhesive Vehicle V’s: Vehicle markings with high infrared reflective performance.

Understanding Infrared and Its Applications

Infrared (IR) light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum with wavelengths longer than visible red light but shorter than microwaves, typically ranging from 800 nm to 1 mm. It is invisible to the human eye but can be felt as heat. IR light can be utilized for night vision through two primary techniques:

  • Thermal Imaging: Detects IR radiation emitted by all objects, creating an image that allows differentiation between warm, living objects and their cooler surroundings.
  • Image Intensifiers: Capture available light photons (both visible and invisible), convert them into electrons, amplify these electrons, and then transform them back into visible light photons, creating a brightened image of the viewed area. Some image intensifiers also include IR illumination to enhance visible detail without being detected by the human eye.

REDeye® Infrared Identification Systems

REDeye® infrared identification systems are specifically designed to leverage the light emitted by IR-illuminating night vision devices. They utilize military-grade reflective materials that send every IR photon back to the image intensifier, enhancing the available electrons for multiplication and conversion back into photons. This results in a highly intensified reflective signature, making the REDeye® products exceptionally effective for covert identification purposes.
